The Chip Kelly experiment in Philadelphia has ended prematurely. Not saying that him being fired following the season would’ve been a huge surprise. But letting him go with one game left in the season catches most by surprise.
The team underachieved this season and he lost the locker room before the season even began. Trading LeSean McCoy seemed to rub fans the wrong way and that was probably the beginning of the end. But for his troubles, Kelly will be paid $13 million to go away. Not entirely sure he’s the loser in all of this.
The Philadelphia Eagles fired Kelly Tuesday night with one game left in his third season, dumping the coach/personnel boss after missing the playoffs in consecutive years.
Kelly was released before the finale of a disappointing season that began with Super Bowl expectations. The Eagles are 6-9 after going 10-6 two years in a row. They were eliminated from playoff contention after losing to Washington at home on Saturday night.
