Verlander Loses No-Hit Bid in Ninth Inning

Justin Verlander has two no-hitters to his credit in his career and flirted with a third this evening vs. the Angels. It’s one thing to lose a no-hitter and it’s another thing entirely to lose one in the ninth inning. Heartbreaking. He had to settle for a complete game shutout.

Justin Verlander lost a bid for his third no-hitter when Chris Iannetta lined a leadoff double in the ninth inning that landed barely fair on the left-field line, and the Detroit Tigers beat the Los Angeles Angels 5-0 Wednesday night.
