Kentucky had their chance for history, but now face the reality what-could’ve-been. In today’s college game, for the most part, guys don’t return to school in order to give a championship another try. Why would say no to people who would love nothing better than to give you millions of dollars? “I’ll grab that from you next year” isn’t a popular choice.
To that end, Kentucky’s John Calipari said today that he expects seven players, including the entire starting five, to declare for the NBA Draft. That’s the Harrison twins, Willie Cauley-Stein, Karl-Anthony Towns, Trey Lyles, Dakari Johnson and Devin Booker. Of those guys, Towns clearly has the brightest NBA future ahead of him. The others may be middling role players if they’re fortunate enough to hang around the league.
The deadline to enter the draft is April 26.
