We’ve seen childhood athletic phenoms before, but Mo’Ne Davis’ celebrity seems a bit different. So much so that it was reported last week that Disney plans on making a movie that will be closely tied to her story.
When this news broke, most people thought it was a great story. But Joey Casselberry, a baseball player at Bloomsburg University, felt differently and fired off an offensive tweet aimed at the 13-year-old Davis. So bad that he deleted it. For his actions, Casselberry was kicked off the team.
Today, Davis, showing her maturity, asked Bloomberg University to reinstate Casselberry, but the school has decided to stand firm behind their decision. Davis was on SportsCenter today and addressed the issue:
“Everyone makes mistakes, and everyone deserves a second chance. I know he didn’t mean it in that type of way, and I know a lot of people get tired of just seeing me on TV, but sometimes you’ve got to think about what you’re doing before you actually do it.
I know right now he’s really hurt, and I know how hard he worked just to get to where he is right now.”
