adidas Will Not Renew Contract With NBA After 2016-17 Season

Nike owns the basketball sneaker industry and have a stranglehold over market share. But of late, we’ve seen adidas and Under Armour make significant moves in basketball recently. Adidas is the NBA’s outfitter and Under Armour landed a potential future MVP in Steph Curry (and nearly stole Kevin Durant from Nike).

Regarding the former, adidas has announced that they do not plan on renewing their deal with the NBA when it expires at the end of the 2016-17 season. That would mean no more seeing LeBron, Durant, Harden, Curry, and other high-profile NBAers signed by other sneaker companies, in official NBA warm-up gear with the adidas logo emblazoned across their chest.

So who’s up next? Completely guessing here, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Under Armour makes a strong push. They seem very eager to make a stronger imprint in basketball.
