In today’s NBA, it doesn’t seem like it takes much for guys to be given the maximum allowed contract. Unproved guys are maxed out just about every offseason in panic moves by the incumbent organization. But in a case like Kevin Love, in Minnesota, he was definitely performing like a max guy. In Cleveland, touches are limited, so his role has changed.
Because of this, and perhaps other reasons, Cleveland head coach David Blatt does not feel as if Kevin Love is a max player. Interesting that he would actually say that out loud.
I would, however, love to hear Kevin’s reaction to this.
Reporter: “Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love they are two max players, they’re here.” Blatt responds quickly: “Kevin’s not a max player yet.”
