Bill Belichick spoke this morning for the first time since it was deemed 11 of the 12 footballs the Patriots had in their possession during their 45-7 AFC Championship game win over the Colts were seemingly intentionally deflated in order to gain a better grip on the ball. Belichick pleaded ignorance, as he claims he had no knowledge of the situation until Monday.
Given Belichick’s lengthy history of cheating in the Spygate controversy, you can’t blame someone for not believing him. It will be interesting to see what type of punishment the league hands down. And for the record, yes, the Patriots still would’ve beaten the Colts easily had they not done this, but that couldn’t be any more irrelevant given the team’s past.
