Yankees to Retire Joe Torre’s Number 6 Jersey

The split between the Yankees and Joe Torre several years back wasn’t exactly peaceful. At least, that’s not how it seemed. But time heals all, of course.

For his 12 years as Yankees skipper and four World Series wins while in pinstripes, the team will retire his number 6 jersey on August 23.

According to Eye on Baseball, that means there are no longer any single digit jersey numbers available for the Yankees as they have all (or will be) retired:

1 – Billy Martin
2 – Derek Jeter (eventually)
3 – Babe Ruth
4 – Lou Gehrig
5- Joe DiMaggio
6 – Joe Torre
7 – Mickey Mantle
8 – Yogi Berra and Bill Dickey
9 – Roger Maris
