Can the Seahawks Repeat as Super Bowl Champs?

By Ron Leyba

Last season, the Seattle Seahawks shocked the world by beating the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl. Sure, the Hawks were favored by some to win, but no one expected them to dominate. By completely dismantling the Denver Broncos offense, the Seahawks showed that they were truly the best team in the league. Going into next season, the Broncos, Patriots, Packers, Saints, and others have all started to bolster their offense. They are trying as hard as they can to keep up with the Seahawks because they are the team to beat. However, can the Seahawks repeat? The short answer is yes, yes they can.

In regards to the Seattle offense, there is no doubt that they are amazing. Russell Wilson is potentially the best young quarterback in the league, and he looks as though he will remain in that position for a while. Wilson is a rare breed of quarterback. He can run and scramble as well as Colin Kaepernick and force defensive players to chase him around the field as he scampers for a first down. However, he is by no means a one dimensional quarterback. When he has to throw the ball, he is on point. He makes some of the most accurate and clutch throws in the league, and due to this, it is almost impossible to cover him. Unlike Kaepernick or RGIII, you never know what Wilson is going to do. He can burn you with his arm or his legs, and because of this defensive ends are left clueless. Because they do not know if they should rush the passer or stay back, Wilson is given a great advantage.

Another major asset for the team is the addition of a fully healthy Percy Harvin. The talented WR was largely on the IR last season, but he was on the mend for a while, and if the Super Bowl was any indication, he is at full form. The Super Bowl was the first time Harvin could showcase his skills in a while, and he did not disappoint. He was able to destroy the Broncos in every way possible. He burned defenders by running down the field for catches, he had some huge runs, and he returned a kick for a TD. If he is healthy next season, he will be the best utility player in the league.

Last but not least, we must talk about the Seattle defense, also known as the Legion of Boom. The defense, led by star CB Richard Sherman, is potentially the best in the modern NFL era. Going into next season, Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, and the rest of the team are mostly signed on. Because of this, you can expect the interceptions to continue, the hard hits to keep on coming, and a higher number in the win column. This team undoubtedly has the opportunity to repeat.
