Clippers Resume Trade Talks with Celtics at Chris Paul’s Request

Chris Paul is a very powerful man in Los Angeles. He has only been with the Clippers for a short while, but in that time, he has been rumored as being the one guy who was indirectly responsible for the team not bringing back head coach Vinny Del Negro. In Paul’s defense, he denies that.

A few days ago the Clippers pulled out of the complex Celtics trade talks that would’ve landed them Doc Rivers and Kevin Garnett. The Clippers are probably giving up too much in this deal, but according to Yahoo!, the Clippers are picking back up talks at the request of Chris Paul. You could argue this deal hurts the Clippers long term.

Clippers management believed Boston would eventually come back to them out of a belief that the Celtics-Rivers relationship would be difficult to repair, but league sources told Y! Sports that Paul’s desire to play for Rivers – and with Garnett – has been a significant motivator for Los Angeles.
