This was bound to happen. In fact, I’m surprised it took this long. I’m referring to backlash.
As you can imagine, other agents aren’t too happy about this. Also, countless people have had sarcastic things to say about Jay-Z’s latest endeavor. The way I see it: this has success written all over it.
An unnamed, anonymous (and cowardly, and bitter) agent has voiced his distaste with what’s going on, according to the New York Times.
Sounds like sour grapes if you ask me. Wipe your tears, man up, and attach your name to it.
“Canseco is probably dead on,” said the agent, who spoke on condition of anonymity. “Jay-Z doesn’t know s— about baseball. You don’t hire a real estate agent to do neurosurgery.”
“Celebrity in baseball comes from performance, but Robinson is looking at Jay-Z and Beyonce to make him a celebrity,” he said. “He is being naïve. The story now is about Jay-Z, not Robinson.”
However, it’s worth repeating that Jay-Z will not directly be negotiating Cano’s next contract.
