The Saints bountygate situation, and the subsequent fall-out, has to be one of the most annoying sports stories out. Jonathan Vilma and the NFL are still going back-and-forth, and there appears to be no end in sight. Enough already. This story has run it’s course.
But there appears to be another wrinkle now. We were all under the impression that head coach Sean Payton would be back after he served his one-year suspension, but apparently his contract was voided by the NFL at some point. Therefore, Payton is a free agent of sorts and may not return to New Orleans. Interesting.
Within the past year, the multiyear contract extension the Saints announced for Sean Payton in September 2011 was voided by the NFL, making the suspended head coach a free agent after this season and casting questions on how long he will remain in New Orleans, according to league sources.
