49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh Fuels QB Controversy

For all intents and purposes, Jim Harbaugh saved Alex Smith’s career when he arrived in San Francisco last year. Smith was a fringe player who appears to be on his last leg. In came Harbaugh and the Niners were within a few plays from playing in the Super Bowl.

But now Harbaugh has an interesting decision on his hands. Sidelined last night due to lingering effects from a concussion, Alex Smith had to sit and watch backup Colin Kaepernick wow everyone en route to a 32-7 win over the Bears. Colin adds a dimension to the SF offense that Smith is incapable of providing.

Because of that, Harbaugh doesn’t know who will start next week. When asked if Colin is his starting QB going forward, Harbaugh responded,

“We’ll see,” Harbaugh said. “I usually tend to go with the guy who has the hot hand. We got two quarterbacks who have a hot hand.”
