Chris Cooley is one of the most beloved Redskins of recent memory, so it’s understandable that when he was cut before the season began, it was emotional. Cooley always said he would be open to a return to the team, although he’d play for the Cowboys if the price was right.
Yesterday, starting TE Fred Davis tore his achilles on a phantom play which opens up the door for a Cooley return. Davis is gone for the year and today the Redskins officially brought back Cooley. But temper your expectations. He’s still far down on the depth chart.
Veteran tight end Chris Cooley has agreed to rejoin the Washington Redskins, a person familiar with the situation said Sunday night.
Cooley is scheduled to undergo a physical Monday and his re-signing will become official after that, the person said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the team had made no official announcement.
“It’s going to happen,” the person said.
