The Nationals finished with the best record in baseball, but easily could’ve been swept by the Cardinals. But instead, they are tied 2-2 with St. Louis thanks to Jason Werth’s walk-off HR in the 9th.
Had it not been for Werth’s heroics and the Nats lost, everyone would be calling for manager Davey Johnson’s head for agreeing with the idea of shutting down Stephen Strasburg. Especially with the NLDS being a short series.
Here’s Werth’s slam on the 13th pitch of the at-bat in the 9th. In case you can’t tell, he’s the one who looks like the caveman from the GEICO commercials:
