Braves Fans Throw Bottles on Field Over Blown Call By Umpires [Video]

The infield fly rule is truly one of the most useless, difficult to understand rules in sports. It’s so difficult to understand that the umpires in last night’s Cardinals Braves playoff game (a 1-game playoff, after a 162 game season is a complete joke) got it wrong.

It’s without question that altered the outcome of the game as the Braves ultimately lost. The batter should not have been called out. The fans at the game didn’t think so either and decided to demonstrate their displeasure by throwing bottles on the field. You don’t like to see that either, but you can understand their displeasure. Especially since that was Chipper Jones’ final game.

  1. You sir are a complete moron, if you think they got that call wrong. It doesnt matter where the ball is hit as long as an infielder can make a minimal effort attempt to catch the ball. Hell an outfielder can catch the ball and it can still be an infield fly as long as an infielder still COULD have made the catch with minimal effort. And since the SS jogged to shallow left and briefly camped under the ball, (ultimately to jump forward thinking the LF called him off), the call was 100% accurate. It was seemingly late but that is besides the point. It was not your typical Infield Fly but it was one none the less. And to call this rule “useless” is an ignorant statement! Anyone with remote baseball knowledge would know how many garbage outs on a lead runner could be achieved without that rule! SMH
