As a UConn grad, news likes this makes me even more upset as to what the Big East has become. Syracuse, Pitt and West Virginia have all jumped ship, making the basketball product weaker. We can now add Notre Dame to that list. The Irish will be leaving the Big East and heading to the ACC for every sport except football, which will remain independent. Notre Dame football will play 5 ACC opponents each year. Translation: this is all driven by football, of course.
But I can’t get over what this does to basketball. The Big East went from the best college basketball conference in the country to a mid-major, in one year. UConn better save themselves soon because the boat is filling up with water quickly. Not to mention the fact that Big East football was gaining respect. UConn, for example, went from a Division 1-AA to a BCS bowl game in a mere seen years.
