Melky Cabrera is still serving his 50 game suspension for using performance enhancing drugs, and the Giants don’t plan on using him in the playoffs when his suspension is lifted. But in an interesting circumstance, Cabrera (who leads the NL in hitting) has asked to be removed from consideration of winning a batting title. His request has been accepted in a deal struck between Major League Baseball and MLB’s Players Union. That was big of Melky because he certainly didn’t have to. That puts the Pirates’ Andre McCutchen in the lead.
No word yet on if Ryan Braun will take similar measures with his MVP.
