When Floyd Mayweather was in jail during the summer, his friend 50 Cent became a licensed boxing promoter and started The Money Team Promotions. TMT Promotions was supposed to be the promoting outfit for Floyd.
But apparently, 50 and Floyd’s relationship has soured of late since Floyd’s release. To the point where 50 Cent has decided to join forces with Floyd’d biggest rival instead: Manny Pacquiao.
It’s not exactly clear as to what they are beefing about, but I thought they were a bit too close anyway. It was weird seeing 50 with Floyd wherever he went. It will be interesting to see what comes of this, as it appears to be a direct slap in the face to Floyd by 50.
From USA Today,
“50 Cent and I have been talking now for maybe the last two months. They approached us with the idea to form a promotional company,” Koncz told Boxing Scene.
“Initially it was going to be 50 Cent, Manny and Floyd. But right now I don’t think Floyd is going to be a part of it.”
This business venture comes on the heels of 50 Cent closing TMT Promotions, which he had launched in July with the intent of promoting Mayweather fights. Since Mayweather’s return from prison, 50 Cent acknowledge the relationship has been strained.
“[The issues between us] really comes from everybody around him is waiting on the next time he feels generous. And I have a lot [of money], so I don’t wait for nobody,” 50 Cent said on the Rickey Smiley Show. ”I’ll go do what I gotta do. I don’t have to sit around and wait for the next time he feels like giving somebody something.”
I hope all of this means that Floyd vs. Manny just became more of a reality. I’m not holding my breath, though.
