Serena Williams is from Compton. The “Crips” have traditionally had a strong presense in that region of California. So naturally, people will overreact and assume Serena is gang related.

That couldn’t be any further from the truth. The “Crip Walk” has morphed into a mainstream phenomenon over the years and that was all Serena was doing, after she defeated Maria Sharapova today in London to win an Olympic gold. There’s really nothing else going on here.  In fact, when I see people Crip Walk these days, “gang” doesn’t even come to mind. Personally, I found it hilarious.
