Rookie Russell Wilson Named Starting QB For Seahawks

Remember how excited Russell Wilson’s wife was when her husband received that phone call on draft night? I wonder how happy she is now.

The Seattle Seahawks have named rookie Russell Wilson as their week one starter. After watching him at Wisconsin last year, there wasn’t a doubt in my mind that he could play on the next level, despite having the stature of a shifty running back. Not sure what this means for Matt Flynn, whom Seattle signed this off-season.

This makes five rookies that will be starting week one across the NFL. Remember the days where rookies sat for a year and watched? Me either.

“It’s been a very exciting competition that has gone on, and Russell has taken full advantage of his opportunities and has done everything that we have asked for on the field and more than what you guys could know off the field in meeting rooms and with our players and how he’s represented. He’s earned this job,” Carroll said on a conference call Sunday night. “It was a legitimate competition as we said from the beginning, and with the opportunity he’s taken advantage of he deserves to start.”
