Andy Roddick to Retire

I will always consider the 2009 Wimbledon final between Roger Feferer and Andy Roddick to be one of the best sporting events I’ve ever seen. Federer eventually pulled it out but it went down to the wire as each guy gave it his all.

Roddick was born at the wrong time. He’s plenty talented but will largely be an after thought behind the aforementioned Federer and Rafael Nadal, when you think back to tennis of this era.

Roddick has announced that he is retiring following the U.S. Open at age 30.

Andy had the following to say as he announced his retirement:

”I’ll make this short and sweet: I’ve decided that this is going to be my last tournament,” said Roddick, wearing a black T-shirt and baseball cap with his clothing sponsor’s logos.

”I just feel like it’s time. I don’t know that I’m healthy enough or committed enough to go another year,” he said. ”I’ve always wanted to, in a perfect world, finish at this event.”
