This move is the exact reason why so many baseball fans despise the Yankees: because they often times resemble an all-star team. The Yankees have just acquired professional hitter, Ichiro Suzuki from the Mariners. The Yankees look very scary now headed down the stretch (And I’m not even a Yankees fan, but it’s blasphemy that he’s allowed to wear Bernie Williams’ #51).
Ichiro Suzuki’s 12-year run of excellence with the Seattle Mariners ended abruptly today with a trade to the New York Yankees.
Suzuki contacted the Mariners several weeks ago through agent Tony Attansio to explore trade possibilities as the team rebuilds and Suzuki’s nears the end of his career.
Tonight he will face his old team and wear his familiar uniform number 51, last worn with the Yankees by Bernie Williams. Seattle receives right-handed pitching prospects D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquhar for the 38-year-old outfielder.
