Alex Smith Takes a Shot at Cam Newton

Ever since the 49ers brought in Peyton Manning, Alex Smith has appeared defensive. It was no different recently when he spoke about Cam Newton. I’m not sure why he decided to bring Cam’s name into the equation.  Smith could’ve you gotten his point across without mentioning anybody specifically. It’s not Cam’s fault he’s a better passer than Smith.

Here’s what Alex said when asked about passing in the NFL

“I could absolutely care less about yards per game,” he explained recently. “I think that is a totally overblown stat, because if you’re losing games in the second half, guess what, you’re like the Carolina Panthers and you’re going no-huddle the entire second half. Yeah, Cam Newton threw for a lot of 300-yard games. That’s great. You’re not winning, though.”
